Dan Jentzen is a photographer, cinematographer, lighting and production designer, and teacher. He specializes in low-light environments, fast-moving subjects, and capturing real-life moments in tough shooting conditions. More generally, he loves exploring dramatic light in architecture and nature, and how best to share unusual and difficult-to-photograph places. He’s inspired by the shots and explorations of Monique Carboni, James Balog, Aram Boghosian, Suelen Tieko, and Jimmy Chin.
He has designed lighting for over 700 plays, musicals, concerts, and special events including Oprah, Hillary Clinton, Stephen Hawking, LL Cool J, Alison Krauss, Aziz Ansari, Conan O’Brien, En Vogue, Chaka Khan, Anaïs Mitchell, Eden Espinosa, Christine Ebersole, Kelli O’Hara, Brian Stokes Mitchell, the Huntington Theatre Company, the NAACP, Vice Media, Google, and Disney.
He teaches lighting design at Boston Arts Academy and helped found the Media & Entertainment Production program. He also founded the Brighter Boston internship program, to give teenagers something they weren't getting anywhere else: a sense of belonging in the real world.
He holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon and an Ed.M in Educational Neuroscience from Harvard University.
